DIY Handpainted Journals / Planners

Here’s a DIY gift idea for you. You can make some really pretty gifts items (or, to sell), by just purchasing some blank Moleskine journals and painting on the covers. They come in black or buff covers. Either works well. Here’s an example: Moleskine Cahier Journal (Set of 3), Large, Ruled, Kraft Brown, Soft Cover (5 x 8.25): set of 3 Ruled Journals For the inside, you can get either lined, blank or graph paper. I’ve seen non-Moleskine brands as well and sometimes these can be cheaper.

When painting the covers, use acrylic paints, but use as little water for mixing as possible. The more water that is added, the more likely you’ll have rippling of the covers.  Once the paint dries, lay a heavy book on top to help keep it flat. Then put in clear plastic sleeves and add a nice label to make it look professional.  Done!
