Scrapbooking Trendwatch: Felt

We’ve all noticed the emergence of felt on scrapbooking layouts and papercrafting projects. At first scrapbookers were using the material only in it’s ‘raw’ unaltered state. Now, scrapbook supply manufacturers are selling ready-made embellishments and other supplies using felt.

Queen & Co recently introduced their new felt ribbon at CHA Winter last month. KI Memories introduced “HeartFelt Albums” here.

Have you been to “the dollar store” (in this case, Dollarama) lately? They’ve really got some interesting things for making scrapbook layouts and other papercrafting projects. I found this felt flower garland there (at left).

Emily Falconbridge often uses felt in her layouts. Here you will see how she used felt as a frame for a photo. (at right)

Elsie Flannigan is another one who comes to mind when you think of felt. Here is a recent example of her use of the material. She made a mini “portfolio” out of felt to hold wallet-size prints of her layouts to give to family and friends. (below, left). I’m thinking those Flickr Moo Mini Cards would be perfect for this project.

You can see our previous post on Kerrin Quall‘s felt books here. More ideas for using felt in scrapbook projects can be seen here and here.

I have been using felt in my scrapbooking forever it’s great because kids can use it without worrying about fraying and it’s cheap and comes in a million colors. I prefer the wool blends and buy mine at but you can get the acrylic stuff anywhere.
