Spotlight on a Designer: Keisha Campbell

The talented Keisha Campbell joins us for this instalment of our Spotlight on a Designer series.

Keisha is well known for her beautiful photographs and clean yet creative scrapbook design. She is a Design Team member for Making Memories, Scrapologie and Down Memory Lane. She was recently CK’s Fresh Face and is the featured designer in Legacy magazine’s Artist Q&A for the Oct/Nov ’06 issue. She is currently living in China with her Navy husband and two children.

Here are the questions we posed to Keisha along with her answers:

{ScrapScene} How long have you been scrapbooking?

{Keisha} I started in 2003, so a bit over 3 yrs now.

{ScrapScene} What got you started?

{Keisha} I went to a Creative Memories party and bought a few things to try this scrapping stuff out. Wasn’t immediately hooked at first. Took a year to really get into it. Once I found that there were online places for inspiration, and not just a few magazines…I was hooked!!

Layout at right by Keisha features her daughter and is entitled, “Deep Thoughts.”

{ScrapScene} What inspires and motivates you to create if you get a creative block?

{Keisha} I have lots of places to turn for inspiration…I look online & in my magazines. Most of all I look at my own lo’s. I have learned the hard way that I really need to just step away from it for a while, let my desire to scrap build up…and come back with fresh ideas.

{ScrapScene} What are your favorite techniques of the moment?

{Keisha} Stamping, I love it now. I am trying to play with my stamps more often. I try to stamp something somewhere on my projects. And glitter-I love that sparkle…especially since I have two girls!!
Layout at left is by Keisha and entitled, “Oct 01 2006.”

{ScrapScene} What are your favorite products?

{Keisha} Two products you will almost always find on my projects are Making Memories & Heidi Swapp…I don’t do it on purpose. But I love these lines and always find myself digging through my stash!! I also love Basic Grey pp’s, the colors, patterns and the thickness! And CHIPBOARDS, love them…MM Cheeky has cool colors & shapes. But any kind of chipboard products will drive me crazy!!

{ScrapScene} What are your most essential scrapbooking tools?

{Keisha} MM Instant Setter/Slot Punching tools & EK Success corner rounder/scallop punch. Plus my old school Creative Memories circle cutters-first tool I ever bought!!

{ScrapScene} What do you think is the hottest trend in scrapbooking?

{Keisha} Circles, paints, scallops, chipboards, stamping!!! And I love them all!!

{ScrapScene} What do you predict for future trends?

{Keisha} More of the above!!

{ScrapScene} Do you have any tips for getting published?

{Keisha} Just keep submitting any & everything…the lo’s you seem to hate are the ones that seem to get picked!!

{ScrapScene} Are there any other Designers that inspire you?

{Keisha} I love so many-so so many…I have to say top on my list is Rhonda Bonifay, she’s simple, elegant, shabby-things I strive for!! Mary Grace keeps me in AWE. Loni Stevens makes me wanna hide under a rock. Desiree McCellan rules my clean graphic need. Cathy Blackstone stamping inspires me! Maggie Holmes always has fab & fun lo’s! I could truly go one for pages!!

{ScrapScene} What project are you working on now?

{Keisha} I am working on a book project, not sure if I can share who it’s for yet!!

Keisha’s daughter is the feature of this layout at right entitled, “That is Happiness.”

{ScrapScene} Do you have any sneak peeks to share?

{Keisha} I wish I could!! I do have an article in the Oct/Nov issue of Legacy.
