Dollar Store Crafts: Home Decor Idea

I found these wooden trays at our local dollar store, Dollarama.  They come in various sizes and are nesting.  I was actually looking for something to display my clay art dolls in for a craft show I am doing with my Mom this Fall, but once I made them I started to think of them as a decor item.  They would look great on the wall.  You could display them all together or separately, but I like the look of them all together.  You could put some of your favourite items in them to display like in a shadow box, or leave them plain.  And, if you get tired of the paper background, change it out with the seasons!  Another idea is to create scrapbook pages to fit the sizes of the trays and use them as frames for the wall.

Here is what you need:

- wooden trays (Dollarama, $1.50 each)

- adhesive (I used Scotch brand Adhesive Dot Roller and they stuck on perfectly)

- patterned paper (I used some of my favourite Graphic 45 papers that I had on hand)

- paper trimmer

All you need to do is cut the paper to size and glue it in and presto you are finished.  Hang the trays on the wall and enjoy!

  1. [...] Shadow boxes can be made out of many different things: a wooden box, a tray, or even a drawer can do as a shadow box. You will see nice wooden ones available at Michaels (some with a glass front), and also cheaper wooden shadow boxes or trays at a dollar store.  See one photo at right and our post about the dollar store trays here.
