Creative Escape 2009 – Part 1

We are in for a real treat! Thank you to our Guest Poster, Holly Attfield, who will be sharing her insights into Creative Escape 2009 for ScrapScene readers. This will be the first in a short series of posts where she will share her experiences as an attendee at Creative Escape.  Also, please be sure and stop by Holly’s blog, Random Tidbit Series, for a look into her scrapbook art and life.

Holly was one of the lucky ones able to attend the Creative Escape event run by Heidi Swapp and Bazzill Basics this past weekend.  This popular event is in it’s 4th year and was held in Chandler, Arizona at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa.  Holly just arrived home Sunday night and her first thoughts on the event were, "it was so unbelievably fantastic!"  She has lots of info to share, so read on.

"One big surprise… from the event is how much money was raised for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society that CE supports.  The altered lamps made by teachers / past teachers were all raffled off through ticket sales, with the exception of Tim Holtz’s and Heidi Swapp’s lamps.  Their lamps were auctioned off on Saturday night.  Heidi Swapp’s lamp auctioned off for $8,200 US, but the stunning part of the evening was when Tim Holtz’s lamp sold for $29,000 US!  Seriously, twenty nine thousand dollars – it’s not a typo!  Overall, including the raffle ticket sales, there was a ton of money raised for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society."

Shown above are lamps designed by both Heidi Swapp and Tim Holtz.

In the photo above, Heidi Swapp holds Tim Holtz’s lamp while he describes his process for creating it.  He said he pulled it together from vintage finds from right in his studio, just in time to bring it to the event.

In the photo above, both Heidi Swapp and Tim Holtz are overwhelmed as the bids go higher and higher. Photos by Holly Attfield.

Teaching classes this year were Heather Bailey, Lynette Carroll, Debbie Crouse, Paula Cheney, Tim Holtz, Debbie Schuh, Marah Johnson, Heidi Swapp, and Carol Wingert.  Stay tuned for more posts to come where Holly will share more about her experiences at this event and also photos of the projects she completed.
