Art Journal Ideas

There is something so appealing about art journals.  Maybe it’s the raw art that is contained within the pages of an art journal, or maybe it’s just the fact that you can meld journaling and art into one piece and there are no rules around it.  You are free to express what is on your mind, what is inspiring you and what makes you, you.  Here are some pages to inspire you to start an art journal. (At the end, I’ll show you some glimpses of my art journals.)

Vivianna, from Polka Dot Robot, shows some of her pages from Rachel Denbow‘s art journal class here on Janel’s Run with Scissors blog.  More can be seen here.  One of Rachel’s photos is shown below.

A photo peek from Dina Wakley’s "Masterful Art Journaling" class at Get it Scrapped! is shown below.  This class begins June 30th.

Teresa McFayden talks about her ezine, "The Write Place, Write Time."  It is all about creative journaling.  You can check it out here.

Jane Dean shows some pages from her art journal here.  They are for an art journal class she is teaching this month at Pickleberry.  More photos of Jane’s art journal can be seen here.  One can bee seen below.

Looking for a book about art journals, you may want to check out: 1000 Artist Journal Pages – by Dawn DeVries Sokol. Read our review here.  Cover photo is shown below.

Below are a couple of photos from my art journal.  The first set of photos is a peek of an art journal cover from my Mini Book Projects eBook.  The second and third photos show one I posted about last year in this post.  The base is an altered children’s book.  Most of the papers and embellies are from a Kimberly Kwan kit.  The stamps are from Red Lead PaperWorks.

Do you have art journal pages to share?  Send us an email at scrapscene @gmail.com (no space).  We’d love to see!

I look to try art journal but worry about might lack the spontaneousness of written diary. I love the colourful, mixed media imagery the same quality in altered books such a feast for the eyes and also tried making scrapbooks but discover it’s not for me as too ordered and expensive.
