Scrapbooking Jewelry

Yes, you can use your scrapbook supplies and tools (like your Cricut Cartridge Machine) to make jewelry!  Here are some ideas to make wearable art using your stash and a few other odds and ends:

You may have seen Teresa Collins‘ clear dome rings called, “Bling Rings.”  She has these available through her scrapbook line, Teresa Collins Designs.  You can alter the rings to your own taste.  Here are some options that Teresa gives for altering: Adhering paper images from paper or photos behind the dome magnifies the image.  Add small gems to the top using Glossy Accents by Ranger (it dries clear). Teresa says, “Do not put the glossy accents in the middle of the ring or it will cause a hazy effect.” Another idea of Teresa’s is to add alcohol ink or paint to the inside of the ring and then add gems to the top surface of the ring.  Also, you could make a glitter ring by putting glitter on top of the ring. “I used a thin even layer of  Elmer’s glue to the surface of the ring and then adhered THIN glitter. It was really CUTE!”  I also like the idea of putting a piece of text behind the ring. See photos below.  For more information and to see a how-to video, please click here.

Tim Holtz has some stunning jewelry projects in his 2009 workshop series, “Idea-ology Intrigue.”  See a promo photo below.  I just love the old-world feel of these projects! Using supplies from his Idea-ology line, Tim’s class, “will satisfy your creative wishes as we design and assemble numerous wearable pieces using idea-ology.”  In the workshop you will “learn a variety of jewelry making tips and tricks as you customize your creations into one-of-a-kind couture.”  For more information on the workshop please click here.  To see more of Tim’s Idea-ology line, please click here: keys, swivel clasps, and ornate plates.

Red Lead Paperworks has some really cool charms and supplies that are great for not only memory-keeping and collage, but also for making jewelry.  Look at these gorgeous patina brass charms.  They also have precut clear acrylic shapes called, “Clear Bits,” which are a perfect basis for starting a piece of jewelry.  They come in lots of different sizes and shapes. A little while ago we did a post about how we turned some into key tags.  See photo below and see the instructions here.

You may also want to check out this site, Photo Jewelry Making.  They’ve got lots of different supplies and idea for jewelry making using your photos as well.

Donna Downey shows some pendants, belt buckles and rings she made for her Inspired event class held last weekend.  Take a look here to see all the photos.  One is shown below.

Have you made jewelry using your scrapbooking supplies?  Would you like to share it with ScrapScene readers? We’d love to see!  Send us an email at scrapscene @gmail.com (no space).
