Scrapbooking Trend – Feathers & Bows (& a Giveaway from Fiskars!)

** This giveaway is now closed **

Feathers have been popping up around not just in the fashion and home decor world, but also in scrapbooking.  And, not just bird feathers, but peacock feathers as well.  I also believe that we are going to see more of bows popping up in scrapbook layouts in the near future.  Now, I don’t mean how we’ve traditionally been seeing bows – ribbons tied into a bow, but in a new and different way. They are everywhere in fashion and could be easily translated into a scrapbooking project for a cute girly look.

(Scroll down for giveaway details!)

Here are some comments from Angela Daniels:

"My prediction, based mostly on the super cute new 8 x 8 acrylic stamps from Fiskars called "Plumage" (shown at left) is that we’re going to see more and more peacock designs.   I also noticed that BasicGrey also had a few peacock inspired designs in their new "Marrakech" line. (See photo at right.)  My theory? -maybe it all started with the new Housewife (of Orange County TV fame) who wore the peacock feathered lingerie on a episode this season?  I love it when two of my hobbies cross paths.  In this case, tacky TV inspiring crafting?  It’s just too good."

Danielle Thompson‘s, Kitschy Details digital shop, has several different feather images available for scrapbookers.  You can use them in digital scrapbooking or even print them and cut out for traditional or hybrid scrapbooking projects.  (Photos below by Danielle Thompson and posted with permission.) Look for more project examples on Danielle’s Kitschy Details blog.

Photo at left shows a layout done by Rita Weiss.  Rita uses feathers as a backdrop to her photo giving it a soft look.

Check out all the hair bows in Elsie Flannigan‘s Red Velvet Art shop.  Elsie has also been including hair bows in a lot of her ‘girl’ paintings.

Sian Young made this layout at right which is embellished with both a bow and feather.

I’m still smitten with hand drawn details and collect pens of every kind! Every time I find a set with a property (sparkles, gloss finishes, opaque…etc.) I just can’t resist picking it up! Plus that add so much interest to my journaling!

Wow I am so excited to see these feathers being used. I have a Red Hat group and our name is Peacock Feather Red Hatters. We do have a scrapbook of our outings and these stamps would be great. My mind is racing with ideas of things we could do with them.
I think using more lace would be fun.

Wouldn’t that stamp set make some awesome backgrounds?!
I didn’t know bows were becoming a trend…? But I love bows! And I love cupcakes! I need to start incorporating those. And even when I don’t think I like a new trend, it eventually grows on me. I love chandeliers, but I don’t think I’ll ever use those in my LOs.

Such a gorgeous set. I have used real feathers in LO’s before, but I would love to own a stamp set of feathers. This would be a great way to embellish everything.

What a great stamp set. I think using it with some really soft, fluffy fibers would look nice.

I think that feathers would be great on a layout. I heard that the spring fashion will be safari, jungle outfits perhaps this will translate onto paper too?

I LOVE so many of the trends: feathers, silhouettes, birdcages, chandeliers, swirls. Not all at the same time, but at least 2 or 3 🙂
