In my experience as a mom of two young boys, and a life coach of moms looking for sanity in the chaos, one thing seems to be almost universal. Moms don’t take very good care of themselves! Mom is always last, gets the dregs, and finishes the day too tired for self-care and downtime. I know that’s how I feel most of the time! Aside from my kids, one of the most precious things I have is my Alone Time, which I’ve worked out with my husband so I have some time to take care of things that I can’t do with kids around. Watch movies, read, make blank books (my latest obsession), hang out with girlfriends, or do whatever it takes to recharge me! Scrapbooking certainly fits the bill too :).
It’s so easy to get lost in parenting, and lose the sense of who and what we are apart from our kids. I’ve really struggled with who I am since I’ve had my boys, and realize that I am a good mom, but I’m also a good coach and runner and a few other things … those things we’re good at, love to do, and have trouble finding time for! I believe taking a bit of time here and there for those things makes us richer and more well rounded as parents and people. That’s why I started www.sanemoms.com, as a place to talk about those things that get left behind, the struggles of parenting, and a safe place to vent on those days you really wish you could press the Undo button :).
