There is something new at Say it with Letters! They’re introducing kits with their letters and shapes. The house shape is definitely one of their best sellers and they’ve paired it with the gorgeous Sonoma line from Scenic Route. Love it! Below are the steps for creating your own little Happy Home created by design team member, Kory Dordea.
Happily Ever After House Tutorial
Step 1: Paint the sides/edges of the house shape with acrylic paint of your choice. I chose to paint my edges red.
Step 2: Choose your patterned papers. I used the large flowered patterned paper for the main part of the house. Turn the desired patterned paper face down, then cover your house shape in adhesive and adhere it to the back of the patterned paper. Trim around the edges of the paper with an exacto knife, then flip it back over and sand the edges.
Step 3: Cover the chimney part of the house shape with a clear drying wet adhesive and then sprinkle red glitter all over it. Gently press down and then shake off the excess. Glue buttons on top of the glitter.
Step 4: Choose two coordinating patterned papers for the roof of the house. Cut seven 1" x 1" squares of one patterned paper and six 1" x 1" squares of the other patterned paper. Sand them for a distressed look. Adhere them to the roof by alternating the patterns. Cut a sticker strip in half long ways and adhere to the bottom edge of the roof.
Step 5: Choose two patterned papers that you would like to use for the door. Cut two 2.75" x 4" pieces (one of each of the patterns) and sand the edges. Glue one of the pieces to the house shape. This is the inside of your doorway. Lightly score the second piece approximately 1/4" over from the edge. Fold along the scored line and then apply a very thin strip of adhesive to the skinny folded edge. Next, adhere the skinny folded edge to the far left hand side of the inside of the doorway. If adhered correctly, it should now open and close like a door!
Step 6: Adhere an oval journaling die-cut to the outside of your door, then punch a small hole for your doorknob. Add the doorknob to the door. Choose some coordinating die-cuts and chipboard embellishments to add to the inside of your door. I also covered a chipboard heart in red glitter and added it the doorway.
Step 7: Choose stickers and chipboard embellishments to add to your house shape. I sanded the edges before I adhered them. Lastly, cut two strips of twine and tie a cute little bow. Adhere it to your house at an angle just up next to your roof.
Step 8: Smile because you did a great job! Find a place in your house to hang your creation and then live happily ever after!
