I had such fun playing with some little clear acrylic shapes from Red Lead PaperWorks. They come in the cutest packaging with a vintage photo reproduction as part of the packaging. To get your own, you can check them out here ("Clear Bits.") They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes: round, square, rectangular, etc. Also, you can get them with holes pre-drilled which makes things so much simpler!
For altering, you can stamp on them with Staz-On ink, which is what I did on some examples below, use paint, or even alcohol inks. (The stamps shown in the samples below are also from Red Lead PaperWorks.) They’d make great little embellishments for scrapbooks or cards, but I started thinking keychains or key tags. I thought these would be handy to include with Christmas presents this year. So some are even monogrammed with rub-ons!
Below are the steps to alter them:

Materials:
rubber stamps
Staz-On ink pad or permanent markers
paint
paint brush
chain or keyring (I got my chains from Michael’s in the jewelry department)
patterned paper (double-sided saves some time as both the front & back are covered at once)
rub-ons
Red Lead PaperWorks "Clear Bits"
Instructions:
1. Stamp design with Staz-On inkpad or permanent markers. Or, apply rub-ons.
2. Paint backside of acrylic bit or back it with patterned paper and glue it on with a clear glue. On the pink fairy key tag, I glued a woodgrain strip to the back before painting it so you can see it through the fairy.
3. Let dry.
4. Feed chain through and secure at closure.
That’s really all there is to it! I may go back and add some charms though…. since I can’t leave well enough alone, LOL!
