After much debate, many grey hairs and a few sleepless nights, we have a decision. If you’ve taken a look at the 220-some entries we received, you’ll know why. You guys are amazing! So much talent out there and many of them yet ‘undiscovered’ too, I’m sure. Thank you to everyone who provided their input judging-wise for our “Truly Trendy” contest. Also, thank you to our wonderfully generous sponsors!
Without further talk, let’s get to it! There is one grand prize winner and 5 runners up. (Click photos to enlarge.)
Grand Prize Winner:
Michou (Michele Beck)! Michou is from France and here is her winning layout, “1 2 3 Bulles.” It is a 12″x12″ page featuring the hot trends of paint, distressing, brackets, circle flowers and felt.
We love how Michou freely used paint in her background. Love the little dots and circles she made and how they echo the photo’s theme. Also, the distressed page edges, turned over and stapled are so unique! Very shabby chic look. Congratulations Michou! P.S. After looking Michou up, we found this great tutorial she did for NSD at ScrapDreamie which illustrates her techniques using another layout.
5 Runners Up: (in no particular order)
Ilka Adam – Ilka is from New Zealand and congratulations to her for the “Soo Ready for Takeoff” layout. Love the mod look of the page and the ‘real’ bird! This layout is so different from others we’ve seen out there and thus really stood out.
Louise Williams – Louise hails from Aukland, New Zealand. We love her grungy shaded 12″x12″ layout. Louise tells us she used paints, chalks and inks to achieve this edgy look. She also used the trends of Wings, Stamps and Transparencies. Check out her blog for more beautiful work.
Patricia Zimmerman – Patricia is from the United States (I think New York, but we’ll update this and let you know for sure) and congratulations to her for the layout, “Together.” How could we not notice Patricia’s layouts? They stood out because they were again, so different from other works that we’ve seen around. Patricia used the trends of paint, doodling and hand stitching. She tells us that she used collage techniques to create her effect. Believe it or not, she has only scrapbooking for about 5 months! Patricia also tells us, “I think while creating this(these) most current lo’s I have found my style and will continue on creating.”
Jennifer Barksdale – Congratulations to Jennifer from Alaska, U.S.A. for her beautiful entry, “Adore.” Jennifer has a delicate romantic style and used butterflies as her trend. Love how she has the wings turned up to make the layout 3D and how some of her background is off centre. Take a look at the gallery of entries to see Jennifer’s other two beautiful layouts.
Virginie Wurtz – Congratulations to Viriginie from France for her 6″x4″ “Garden Portfolio” project. Virginie made the tree on the front cover out of cork! Her trends are trees, owls and environmental/garden theme. Love the organic feel to this beautiful little booklet. She tells us that she will, “use this portfolio several times in the year, changing the pages every season. It’s a way to keep memory of all my garden details, and as a garden is living, I will need to change the little layouts.”
Congratulations to all SIX of our WINNERS! We will also be sending you an email confirming your win and requesting your mailing addresses.
Since we can’t leave well enough alone, we will also be highlighting some additional entries, honourable mentions throughout the week.
Thank you again to our sponsors and also to everyone who sent in an entry. This decision was truly very difficult for us to make.
