Altered Children’s Books

jillbrushweddingalbum.JPGJill Brush shows a children’s book she altered into a wedding album here. (A tutorial is also posted.) She bought the book at Target and since the pages were offset, it looks like an accordian album! One photo is shown at left.

Shirley, from Standing on the Edge,  altered a children’s “Little Golden Book” into an art journal.  You can see one photo of it below and many more photos here.  Shirley used the One Little Word concept as a theme for her journal.

NYVintageVanity2, on Etsy, has some great little projects for sale using altered children’s books.  There are frames altered with children’s books here and how about this coupon holder or this notepad. Looks like the Crop-a-Dile would work well on these projects!  They’ve even altered a tissue box with pages from a children’s book here.

If you’d like to try altering a children’s book, check out the tutorial on Design Originals.  They show some step by step photos of the preparation process including sanding and applying gesso to the surface prior to creating your masterpiece!  If you give this a try, let us know – we’d love to see your results!
