Spotlight on a Designer: Anna Louise Bowkis

annalouisebowkisheadshot.jpgAnna Louise Bowkis is our latest featured designer for this installment of Spotlight on a Designer. You can read previous spotlight interviews here.

Anna Louise lives in Cambridgeshire, UK, with her husband and two little girls. She tells us that she is, “an avid scrapper, surprise , surprise!” Anna is one of The Best of British 2006 winners and currently contributes to several leading UK publications. She is on several design teams in the UK and US, Paper Jam Studio, 2 Jills, Scrapping Angels and the Pencil Lines challenge blog.

Anna describes herself this way, “Known to my friends and family, as The Domestic Goddess, hahaha. I love baking, cooking, trying my hand at a bit of gardening and I love interior design I guess all these “hobbies” have a creative influence in my scrapbooking and my love for colour. Now to the not so good side of me! I am theannalouisebowkisbdaygirlpl36.JPG most disorganized person you could meet!! This drives everyone round the bend, lol. My new love is my Nikon D80 which is never far away, capturing my girls every moves and scrapped at a later date.”

Here are the questions we posed to Anna along with her responses:

{ScrapScene} Please tell us a little about yourself and your family.

{Anna Louise Bowkis} I am 37 and live in a small village in Cambridgeshire in the UK. I am married to Peter and have two beautiful girls, aged 7 and 4.

{ScrapScene} How did you first get into scrapbooking?

{Anna Louise Bowkis} annalouisebowkisbutter_53_rs.JPGI fell across scrapbooking via a UK forum UKScrappers and 2 Peas in 2005. Dabbled a little and before I knew it was totally hooked. I have a creative background and have always loved playing with colour and paper, writing “stories” and photographing my girls, scrapbooking is just the perfect hobby to combine everything onto one page! I love to tell the everyday stuff and probably scrap very few “holiday” photos. I want to capture the little things in life, the look on my girls faces as they concentrate, the relationships with family and friends, playing at the park and enjoying that big bowl of pasta!

{ScrapScene} How would you define your style?

{Anna Louise Bowkis} I would define my style as colorful, cluttered with texture andannalouisebowkisfacepainterpl43rs.jpg dimension. I love to see a touchy feely page, with pull out tags and dimension. I love using patterned papers.

{ScrapScene} What is your favourite scrapbooking subject?

{Anna Louise Bowkis} This is easy! My family… If I didn’t have my girls and family to scrap I really am not sure what would fill my pages. I need to scrap more pages of me I guess!!!

{ScrapScene} Do you have a favourite technique you’d like to tell us about?

{Anna Louise Bowkis} I love to layer. I am really into making paper flowers at the moment and layering with 3D foam pads, I love adding buttons, ribbon, safety pins and jewels in the centers.

{ScrapScene} What are your favourite materials/products?

{Anna Louise Bowkis} I am in love with Scenic Route, Crate Papers and Cosmo Cricket Dutch Girl range at the moment. I couldn’t live without my circle punch and a good pair of scissors for making paper flowers with.annalouisebowkissketch1year_anna.jpg

{ScrapScene} What are your most essential tools?

{Anna Louise Bowkis} A decent paper trimmer and scissors. I cannot cut a straight line to save my life. I love my Purple Cow trimmer and Fiskars scissors.

{ScrapScene} Please describe your scrap space/studio.

{Anna Louise Bowkis} I love my studio. It overlooks my garden and has lots of light.annalouisebowkisdrawers_webrs.jpg My favorite piece of furniture in my studio has to be these old post office drawers; they hold all my papers in colour. (See photo above.)
